Some of the ones I really liked were:

Tetris -- had a blast with this one, really helped with my eye hand coordination smile
    Super Mario Bros.
    Super Mario Bros. 3
The Oregon Trail (the old school versions, before they messed it up  facepalm ) -- used to love to hunt on this game and then have the people get sick lol.
    Super Mario Land
    Super Mario Land 2
All of the Pokemon series -- still play this one now and then and am looking forward to the newest installments, X and Y.

What are some of your favorite games that you grew up with and loved to play?

I was a big simulation fan - SimCity, the Sims, RollerCoaster Tycoon, etc.

Still enjoy this genre. Just recently I bought the newest SimCity and Cities in Motion 2.

Cool, I have a copy of The Urbs for my GBA. Not sure if it still works though, might have to  see if it does when I can. It was a pretty good game :).

I loved Dynamite Headdy. Then I stopped playing computer games for years. Now I only really play Final Fantasy games

I was obsessed with The Sims, I had the original with a few expansion packs, and then I got The Sims 2 and all of the expansion packs up to Seasons, I think. I'm pretty sure installing them all ruined the computer  tongue

I loved to play the Jak and Daxter series on PS2 as well, the original trilogy were brilliant games.

And of course Pokemon  biggrin I still have those games and play them occasionally

Pokemon and The Legend of Zelda. Still remember the day my parents asked me to choose between Red and Blue. Also played Jet Force Gemini and Heroes of Might and Magic III. Realms of Arkania was also good, especially with some background knowledge.

I was a very deprived child. I didn't have computers or the games that went in them :) I remember a friend having a saga mega drive 2 we used to love playing Toejam and Earl :)

For me it was board games like Sorry :)

First game I played was Alley Cat. I was about four or under and my sisters didn't let me try but once or twice: "You're too small. You don't know how to play!" which was correct, but! but! but!

Games I played in elementary school (Games I particularly liked are in bold): Rodland, Tetris, Paperboy, Pushover, D/Generation, Cosmo's Cosmic Adventures, Monkey Island, Astrofire, Civilization, Sim City, Settlers, Commander Keen, Hugo: whodunit, Addam's Family, Star Wars: Dark Forces, Syndicate, Command & Conquer, Worms, Little Big Adventure, Rayman, Duck Tales, Superfrog, Chaos Engine, Bomber Man (Dyna Blaster), Might and Magic II

Games I absolutely hated: Mutant Penguins. I had to play it through because I spend all of my money on this game because the box looked alright.

High School: Final Fantasy, Star Ocean, Megami Tensei
