| What I worry about with the decision to keep CoS open (under new management or otherwise) is that it feels like trying to revive a near-dead horse with whose death most of us had finally come to terms. The forums had, sadly, experienced a huge drop off inactivity over the past couple of years, and I worry that an attempt to revive the forums will have to come with an overhaul of the site.
However, I've definitely been a bit pessimistic about all this, and I should emphasize that there is certainly the chance for success and progress. It was a bit frustrating with the forums so near closure that the site closed with so many question marks. But I am trying to develop more optimism - any compromise to bring back such a great community and a place for discussion should be applauded rather than immediately dismissed. Not sure where my earlier pessimism was coming from!

| We now have this message: Sorry, have to delay the reopening another 24 hours. Just have to finish fixing some issues with some templates. - Morgoth
So apparently it will be open tomorrow? That doesn't seam right it seams way too quick.

| Quote sjcuk13 ( ) So the Super Bowl is basically the final of this years competition? Yeah. It's basically the last two teams standing from the professional football conferences.
Quote sjcuk13 ( ) Ah, thank you! I'll check it out!

| @MrSleepyHead -
I don't feel like a pawn. Matt is the owner of the site. We were always his guests. His smirky little remarks since the site went down make me suspect there might be something cool in store for us. I'm in wait and see mode but remain cautiously optimistic.

| And the message has changed again today about it being closed for another 24 hours, so when are we expecting it to re-open. What kind of formatting or whatnot are they changing?

| Quote xhanax315 ( ) What kind of formatting or whatnot are they changing? My guess is, not much.
Morgoth says he and Ali have been archiving stuff, so all the old threads are being kept for posterity (except those already zapped).
I'm curious as to whether there'll be a Hogsmeade, and social groups.
I wonder if they'll also "export" the members list or if we have to re-register on Mugglenet. I most of all wonder if they will "export" the black list and whether the people who were banned will be allowed to come back in. If the members are "exported", will they keep their "seniority" and post count?
It always was my feeling that Morgoth never really meant to close the site. There were too many equivocal statements in his announcements, and then those constant postponements...Being myself Admin of a site, I know it doesn't take months to close it. It was all theatrics. Morgoth certainly gave an Oscar-worthy performance!!
A better question is the future of THIS site. If the "new" CoS takes off, will people go on posting here?
I also wonder what Canis Majoris meant when he said he had "serious reservations" about opening this site. I asked him, but he never responded. Is he still around, I wonder?

| Quote FleurduJardin ( ) A better question is the future of THIS site. If the "new" CoS takes off, will people go on posting here? This site will stay open for the foreseeable future, but if CoS does return in it's original glory (or if changed is generally accepted), I can see that activity here will reduce again and I am fine with that. This site was always intended to fill a hole CoS was leaving, and if that hole does not eventuate, I don't expect this site to succeed.

| I feel that's a bit harsh and unfair considering that a lot of hard work had gone into this sight. You made the site because COS was closing if you knew that COS was going to close for a short while then reopen again would you have payed for this site and put all that hard work into it? If COS does reopen and the changes are accepted then I will be going back to post but I don't see why that also mean I don't come back here as well I will .... as long as the forums are here and I can think of a suitable reply

This site was made for free, so I haven't invested terribly into it. As I said, the site will remain open for the foreseeable future. I'm just being realistic about what the site's purpose was and recognising that it would struggle to compete with a returned CoS.

| The CoS closure is off. Matt posted this before closing the Closure thread:
Quote Due to recent developments, the closure of CoS is no longer happening. In the last few days we've done some tidying up of the forums to improve performance a little and undergo a deletion of threads no longer needed on the site. So if you notice your post count has dipped, then it's the work we did. I lost 2,000 posts, so it wasn't targeted at any one type of group or another.
There is no news to offer at this stage on any new management of the site. I'm still 'in charge' until otherwise stated. There's no further need for notices or comments as I've got nothing whatsoever to add. Carry on posting and we'll update you all with news when it comes.

| Quote sjcuk13 ( ) COS has opened again and Morgoth is still there .... no changes really Oh, yay!
I can see where some people would be like, "Ugh, all that unnecessary angst and grieving!"though.
I plan to keep posting both here and there, myself, when I have the time.

| Haha; so I was right, didn't I tell you that Morgoth would not close and would stay in charge?
Only a few people like the two who posted above me, myself and Arry come in and post here or on my AvenueViet site regularly. The rest will spend most of their Internet time on CoS like they did before.
Nothing has changed. And in case anyone wonders, the banned members are still banned, Bill Muggle Magic (Flying Tiger here) tried to log in the "new" CoS and was booted out without ceremony.
I'm not even going to try. All these manipulative tactics of Morgoth's are despicable as far as I'm concerned. He played on people's loyalties and friendships and maneuvered them around masterfully. All those tearful goodbyes, complaints about money, time, personal concerns, etc... The hanging threat of a closure that never happened... All that "angst and grieving" as Sailorlum said...

| Yes, what has happened is all a bit anti-climactic. So Morogth is continuing to pay for the site by removing threads (therefore reducing the site's size and cost)... If this was a possibility, why announce and lead through to the closure. Unlike you Fleur, I believe that - at one point or another - Morgoth did mean for the site to be closed. My reading of this is that Morgoth can sense the vultures (Mugglenet) sniffing and doesn't want to let go of it. I haven't read all the latest posts about everything yet though.

| I honestly don't care. I give a damn about the staff (for the most part). Don't think that they'd want anything bad to happen to it. Anything to do in regards to Morgoth isn't even in my view tbh. I'm just there appreciating it.

| Well CoS is up and running again without apparent change and with Morgoth still firmly at the helm.
I was glad to see, though, that it didn't really boost attendance like I guess Morgoth hoped it would. There was a surge at first, and a scramble to find a way to keep in touch - which led to the creation of this site, - and then some suspense with postponement after postponement of the closing, and now it's business as usual.
What was all the drama and hullaballo for?
